The Small Things Fund is a relational crowdfunding initiative for first-generation tertiary education students in South Africa. We offer first-line support for the small things that aid academic success. First-generation students, especially those from resource-constrained communities, strive against the odds to make it to graduation.
As with first-generation students across the globe, South African students face post-pandemic recovery challenges, changing economies, social pressures and family circumstances – some of which outside their control. For first-generation students, the effects are that much more intense. In cases where social safety nets are entirely removed, or fagile at best, a small thing can bring big change.
We thank every donor and every supporter for their commitment and partnership with since 2015. We look forward to having you continue the journey with us as we stay sensitive to the needs of students in our environments.
As an organisation, we salute every first-generation student who has come through the last academic year. For those who are able to continue to graduation, it remains our privilege to come alongside them for some of the way.
