Partners

In the 10 years that we’ve been serving students, we know the value of reaching more people in partnership with others. Our relational model leads to partnerships with others who share our vision for first generation students. Partnerships extend our networks. They also deepen our impact.

The CoCreate Hub & Ranyaka

Local social innovation hub

Imagine a physical space purposefully designed to attract and facilitate social re-imagining of a town that was once designed to segregate people along racial and economic lines. The Co-Create Hub at 7 Victoria Street, Stellenbosch, managed by local NGO, Ranyaka, has become our regular meeting place for our monthly EET SAAM gatherings. We make use of the Hub for most of our meetings, and as much as possible, we support the innovative business models that are sustaining SMMEs in the university town of Stellenbosch.

We are grateful to friends at the Hub who support our vision and our students!

Welgevallen Garden Group & ECO MATIES, Stellenbosch University

University Student Volunteers

Stellenbosch University has some amazing student volunteers who sustain a food garden on campus. This mutlidisciplinary team, supported by fellow students at ECO MATIES, contribute to our monthly food parcel distribution.

When students support students, peers learn together about one another’s lived experiences. The transaction of giving and receiving changes to a relationship of sharing.

We are grateful to the groups of students who keep our efforts going. Thanks, guys!

Logsimprac

IT support and supplies

Logsimprac is our first stop for IT-related issues. Students often cannot afford to replace computer hardware and software, so they need the services of a reliable IT hardware maintenance person. As far as possible, the Fund subsidises negotiated service costs.

Logsimprac does system checks, and works with local partners to find affordable, quality hardware for our students.

Living Soils Learning Farm

Small-scale food growers

In April 2021 we started exploring a new partnership with Living Soils Learning Farm at The Sustainability Institute at Lynedoch, Stellenbosch. We like the idea of supporting the work of small-scale landless food growers who make an effort to grow beautiful, nutritious food with integrity for the land.

Our thanks to the farmers, Rirhandzu and their team for growing the food that sustains our students.

Stellenbosch Civil Advocacy Network (SCAN) & Stellenbosch Unite

The Small Things Fund joined SCAN in 2020. The Network was a civic response to the COVID19 pandemic. As a local NGO serving the university student community, The Fund was invited to join the network.

We benefitted from partnerships and a once-off donation during the height of the pandemic. Our thanks to local network partners and local donors in the university town of Stellenbosch for your support then and now.
