University education remains a far-off dream for many South Africans. Those who make it often do so against extraordinary odds. Loved ones may struggle to relate, and may not be by the means to offer support.
We crowdfund to meet some of the basic material needs of first-generation university students. But our Fund is far more than just money.
We also offer them access to our networks. We share our own hard-earned experience. We keep an eye out for opportunities, and connect them to people we know and who share our values.
The Small Things Fund does not offer vast amounts of money. But students often say that it means so much more that somebody noticed their journey to graduation, and cared enough to help. In this case, there is a community of Funders whom they may never know, backing them up and cheering them on.
